Email: Master List/Audiences and Tags

This post details the use of audiences for our clients as well as tags and segments.

**Beginning January 2024, all tasks that include contacts for importing should be sent to Julia as a task with details on tags, segments, etc.

We suggest our clients use one master audience or list within their email platform, such as Mailchimp or Constant Contact.

Additionally, when clients are sending us lists of contacts, it’s best if they can include as much information about the contact as possible. For example, the list needs to have the contact’s first name, last name, email address, company, etc. instead of just the email, so that the emails we are sending for clients can be personalized with “Hey Ted!” instead of “Hey, Friend!”

Segments:

If a client would like to send a version of their email to one segment, such as donors who gave over $100, contact our database team for that list. Then, you can send the list to the communication coordinator to import and create a segment within the email platform.

Tags:

In both Mailchimp and Constant Contact, Accordus suggests for the clients to use tags based on criteria, instead of creating a separate audience. For example: The client should have one “master” list with tags for “Volunteers” “Donors” etc.

Audience/List names:

We suggest having the client’s audience named as “Blue Skies Partners” or “We Care Foster Care Supporters” instead of “2021-03 Import” or “List of Pastors and Youth Pastors”.
