To change the merge fields for emails so that the fallback text is “Hi Friend,” instead of “Hi <<FIRST NAME>>”, go to contacts/audience > settings > audience fields.
Make sure that the column ‘default merge tag value’ has Friend or *CLIENT* SUPPORTER. (I.e. Hi Foundation Family Supporter,)
