Websites: Connect a Domain & Purchase Squarespace Site

This post is for the creative director and website coordinator when the need arises to purchase a domain or upgrade a Squarespace subscription for a client.

Purchase a Domain for Clients

By default, clients should purchase a domain for their website in order to have a relevant URL when posting on social media, in emails, etc. Julia Sweeney will purchase the domain via GoDaddy for all clients as she has credit card access and manages our client’s subscriptions.

Instructions:

  1. Log in to the Accordus GoDaddy Account using the credentials stored in Keeper
  2. Select “My Products”
  3. Search for a new domain based on the client’s request or branding
  4. If the client’s domain is taken/not available, send the Team Lead a list of currently available domains for the client to choose from
  5. Add the domain to cart, purchase using the Accordus payment information
  6. Email [email protected] with the subject: CLIENT NAME – #Receipt
  7. Let the receipt team know that the client should be billed for this charge.
  8. The domain needs to be transferred to the client as soon as possible within GoDaddy using their own GoDaddy account after we have connected it to their website (below).
  9. The client will still need to give us access to their domain after it has been transferred.

Upgrade or Purchase a Subscription in Squarespace

At some point in the website build, we will need to purchase a subscription to Squarespace. All clients need to start at the Basic Business plan for $33 and billed monthly.

Unless the client stated they will be selling merchandise, no one will need the commerce plan.

Adrienne will upgrade the subscription when needed. Email [email protected] with the subject “CLIENT NAME #Receipt” and cc the team lead. Let them know the client will need to be billed monthly for the charge.

Connect a Domain in Squarespace

After a client has approved all website edits and it is ready to be published, the web designer will need access to the client’s domain (via GoDaddy, namecheap, Google Domains, etc).

Here are the instructions on how to connect the domain:
